Anti-Virus & Sandbox Launched as New Option for i-FILTER and m-FILTER In addition to safety through whitelisting, real-time identification improves convenience

Information security solutions provider Digital Arts Inc. (headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, Japan; CEO: Toshio Dogu; hereinafter referred to as “Digital Arts”; Code 2326) is pleased to announce Anti-Virus & Sandbox, an added optional function for our web security product i-FILTER and email security product m-FILTER, which will be available from May 10.

In addition to safety through whitelisting, real-time identification improves convenience

As digitization and working from home become more prevalent, malware attack methods are becoming more sophisticated and clever, and are on the rise. Many malware infections are found through vulnerabilities in software and services or through websites and email attachments. As well, the methods of attack are no longer visually detectable. In addition, as the use of cloud products expands with the spread of telework, there is a rapidly growing need for products that can provide extensive security measures, such as secure web gateways that can provide one-stop solutions to security risks in cloud environments.

Digital Arts offers i-FILTER for secure web access and m-FILTER for receiving safe and secure emails. By utilizing the database of URLs and emails that i-FILTER and m-FILTER have collected over the years, Digital Arts have created a system called whitelisting, which only allows access to websites and emails that we have deemed safe. Whitelisting protects the networks of 10 million *1users from known and unknown malware, and to date, we have received zero reports of infection*2.

In addition to whitelisting, the new addition of the option Anti-Virus & Sandbox improves the level of security by enabling the downloading and receiving of secure files from safe websites and emails.

The new Anti-Virus & Sandbox option uses a top-tier engine selected by Digital Arts and can identify malware in relevant files in real-time, contributing to improved convenience. Furthermore, by providing a one-stop malware identification system within the same product, it makes centralizing management of logs also possible, meeting the security requirements for many of today's cloud networks.

With the expected future increase in cyberattacks that take advantage of the current state of the world, there is an urgent need to review existing security measures. By offering this new option, Digital Arts will support the security measures of more users, companies, and organizations not only in terms of safety but also in terms of convenience.

Optional function Anti-Virus & Sandbox details

■ i-FILTER + Anti-Virus & Sandbox
i-FILTER registers URLs of Japanese websites that come up on search engines, including their contents, in its database and blocks harmful sites and URLs not registered in the database. A "download filter," which checks the safety of files downloaded from URLs and automatically determines the risk of download file extensions and blocks downloads of potentially dangerous files or malware embedded directly on the site, is also included.

Anti-Virus & Sandbox uses anti-virus software to scan files blocked by the "download filter" for the file hash values and virus signature files. If the file is determined to be dangerous, it is blocked and if it is determined to be safe, the download is permitted. If malware is not in the antivirus signature file, the Sandbox scans for malware behavior (a method of identifying and detecting malicious programs based on their behavior) and blocks the malware if it is determined to be dangerous or allows it if it is determined to be safe Whitelisting allows the content of files targeted for blocking to be checked, in turn improving security.

The function also meets the needs of users who require anti-virus software and sandbox features when using i-FILTER as a secure web gateway.

■ m-FILTER + Anti-Virus & Sandbox
m-FILTER saves combinations of the IP addresses and email domains of safe senders to its database and identifies emails from senders not registered in the database by the presence or absence of macros and mail extensions. A "spoofed attachment identifier," which checks the safety of attached files and identifies spoofed attachments, such as multiple extensions, prohibited extensions, and macros, is also included.

Anti-Virus & Sandbox uses anti-virus software to scan files blocked by the "spoofed attachment identifier" for the file hash values and virus signature files. If the file is determined to be dangerous, it is blocked and if it is determined to be safe, the download is permitted. If malware is not in the antivirus signature file, the Sandbox scans for malware behavior and blocks the malware if it is determined to be dangerous or allows it if it is determined to be safe Whitelisting allows the content of files targeted for blocking to be checked, in turn improving security.
